My mum deserves to win because she is one of the strongest and most selfless people I know. Alongside working full-time, she is also an unpaid carer for my dad, who suffers from debilitating migraines.

When Dad has a migraine, it can completely take over his day. He can be in severe pain, unable to do the things he normally would, and needs support and understanding until the episode passes. Mum is always there. She makes sure he has everything he needs, helps him through the difficult moments and takes on the extra responsibilities at home when he isn’t able to.

What people may not always see is that being a carer doesn’t stop when Mum finishes work. She comes home from a full day of working and continues caring, supporting and looking after Dad. She has to be prepared for the possibility that a migraine could strike at any time, while still managing all the normal responsibilities and pressures of everyday life.

Despite this, Mum never complains. She doesn’t ask for praise or recognition, and she certainly doesn’t expect anything in return. She simply does what she does because she loves Dad. Her care comes from a place of genuine love, loyalty and compassion.

I think unpaid carers can so easily go unnoticed because caring becomes part of everyday life. But behind every person who needs care is often someone quietly giving their time, energy and emotional support to make life that little bit easier. My mum is that person for Dad.

She puts everyone else first, even when she is tired herself. She has shown our family what unconditional love really looks like, being there not only on the good days, but also through the difficult and unpredictable ones.

I would love for my mum to win because she deserves to feel appreciated and cared for too. She gives so much of herself to her job, to Dad and to our family, and rarely gets the chance to put herself first.

Winning would be a lovely reminder that everything she does matters, that her efforts are seen, and that the love and care she gives every day truly does make a difference. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.
